The Faculty of Agriculture was established in 1982/83 academic session with four Departments (Agricultural Economic and Farm Management, Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Animal Production and Crop Production) with the structure to offer one Degree Programme i.e., Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Agric.). However, a proposal was presented to the University Administration in 2004 for splitting the then Department of Crop Production into three; Agronomy, Soil Science, and Crop Protection & Environmental Studies. Consequently, the University Administration after due consideration of the viability approved the splitting of the Department of Crop Production into the Agronomy and Crop Protection Departments. The Department of Agronomy consists of two units, Agronomy and Soil Science. The members of Staff of these units have expertise in General Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Weed Science, Soil Microbiology, Soil Physics, Soil Fertility, and Soil.
